In 2020, The Elf on the Shelf’s Magical Holiday Journey offered up a one-of-a-kind immersive theatrical experience, all from the safety of your own car!

With Christmas Spirit running low, Santa’s sleigh had to make an emergency landing at Fairplex in Pomona. Now the Scout Elves have assembled there, and they need your help! Join them on a drive-thru quest to build more Christmas Spirit, as you and your elf-loving crew magically shrink down to elf size and embark on a fun expedition to help repair Santa’s sleigh. Enjoy a dazzling light spectacle with toy-repair workshops, gingerbread villages, and all the sights and sounds of the holidays, blended with a touch of high-spirited fun that only Santa’s favorite Scout Elves can deliver. Prepare to be swept away in an immersive drive-thru experience like no other! The Elf on the Shelf’s Magical Holiday Journey  is an original story brought to life by world-class artists from theater, TV, and film, including scenic design by Emmy Award® winner David Korins (Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen,  The 2019 Oscars), original music composed by Emmy Award® nominee Curtis Moore (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), and lighting design by Broadway lighting designer David Weiner (Romeo and Juliet, Outside Lands Festival).

You will be traveling through an enchanted elf-sized world with magic and elf-tacular surprises around every bend. Along the way kids can join in a scavenger hunt for hidden sleigh bells in their quest to find Christmas spirit and save Christmas! So bring your friends, because Santa needs YOU!

Narration is offered in ENGLISH by Tommas Oden and SPANISH by Mauricio Martinez. Our custom-made app utilizes geolocation to trigger audio narration at each scene along the journey. The app is downloadable for iOS and Android devices.

The Elf on the Shelf’s Magical Holiday Journey is also collecting toys for donation to benefit Toys for Tots and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Bringing a toy is optional, but it would help lift Christmas Spirit! All toys should be new, unwrapped, and sealed in their original packaging. If you’d prefer to make a donation, you’ll be given a donate option during your ticket purchase.

What should I expect from The Elf on the Shelf’s Magical Holiday Journey?

Prepare to be swept into a magical drive-thru adventure, where you’ll join the Scout Elves on their mission to round up Christmas Spirit for Santa so that he and his sleigh can fly again. By shrinking down to elf size, humans will witness incredible sights, experience holiday wonderlands and elf-tacular acts of cheer, and learn to see Christmas Spirit in a way only elves can!

Will Santa be there?

The Scout Elves have reported that Santa and his sleigh are somewhere at the Fairplex! It’s up to humans to generate Christmas Spirit and help him find his lost magical sleigh bells so he can appear and thank you personally for helping him make it back home.

How long is the experience?

Approximately one hour.

Is the experience offered in other languages besides English?

Yes. We offer English and Spanish versions of the journey’s narration. You can opt for either option upon starting the journey using our app, designed to work with your car’s own sound system via Bluetooth.

Is there sound? How does it work?

Each car will need one smartphone with Android Operating System or iOS to experience the narration and music that guides the experience. For the best audio experience, we recommend downloading the app in advance and connecting your smartphone to your car’s sound system. There will be an option to choose narration in English or Spanish. If you do not have a smartphone, we have very limited quantities available for use during the journey. In order to reserve a temporary smartphone, you must email us at a minimum of 24 hours before your entry time/date to let us know that you will need to borrow a phone for your journey.

What ages is the event appropriate for?

The Elf on the Shelf’s Magical Holiday Journey is appropriate for ALL ages.  

Does it hurt to shrink down to elf size?

Does it hurt when snow falls on your nose? Absolutely not!

Will I return to human size before the journey’s end?

As long as Santa receives enough Christmas Spirit to fly again, of course!

Will there be opportunities to take photos?

Yes, there will be many elf-tacular photo moments worth documenting. Feel free to dress festively! There can never be too much Christmas spirit!

What are the ingredients of Christmas Spirit?

Faith, Hope, and Love.

Will there be strobe lights?

There will be moments of flashing and moving lights. Please plan to take precautions if this might cause you discomfort or disorientation.

Will there be food and beverages available to purchase?

Light, pre-sealed refreshments will be available for purchase from your vehicle. All ordered refreshments will be brought to your car.

Will there be merchandise available to purchase?

Do I need to be familiar with The Elf on the Shelf® to enjoy the experience?

No. The Elf on the Shelf’s Magical Holiday Journey is fun for everyone. But Elf on the Shelf® fans might just recognize some familiar elf faces, so keep your eyes peeled!


How do I check in for the experience?

Our friendly staff will greet you at the front entrance to check in your party. You may print out your tickets at home and bring them with you; otherwise, please have your emailed ticket(s) ready on any mobile device. You will not need to leave your car at any point. Simply pull up to the entrance and a masked/socially distanced team member will walk over to your car window and scan your tickets. We require that you have your mask on at any point when your car windows are rolled down.

Do I drive myself?


Do I need to arrive before the start of my scheduled session?

Yes, please arrive 15 minutes before the start of your session.

What happens if I don’t show up at my designated time?

Please arrive 15 minutes before your designated window. We will do our best to accommodate you if you show up outside of your designated window, but we cannot guarantee it.

Can I do the experience without a car?

You must be in a car to attend the event. Customers without a car will not be admitted. If you come in an Uber or Lyft, you must also have a ticket for the driver.

What is the speed limit?

The speed limit is 2-3 mph. Attendees must keep their seat belts on throughout the entire journey.

Are there any vehicle restrictions?

Yes. The following will not be granted access to the event: bicycles, vehicles over 10-feet tall, motorcycles, scooters, convertibles without a roof or windows, jeeps without doors, cars with trailer attachments, trucks with passengers in the bed of the truck, minibuses that accommodate more than eight passengers, buses, RVs, and limos.

Are guests allowed to ride in the bed of a pickup truck?


Can I drive through in a convertible with the top down?

Per COVID-19 safety regulations, convertibles with the top down are not allowed.

What should I bring with me?

Festive attire, a smartphone with Android or iOS software, a mask, and Christmas Spirit! A Bluetooth-enabled speaker will be beneficial, either via your car stereo system or as a separate portable device.

Am I allowed to bring my own food?

Yes, you can bring outside food, provided that all trash stays within your car. Please don’t feed the elves.

I purchased the light-up sleigh-bell necklace with my ticket. How will I receive it?

It will be delivered to your car shortly after your ticket is scanned.

Can I bring my pet?

Yes, provided that pets stay in the car at all times. 

What happens if I need to make an emergency exit and leave mid-experience?

Please alert one of our helpful staff members who will be present throughout the experience, and they will guide you to the exit. Unfortunately, you will not be able to re-enter the experience if you leave early.

What happens if it rains?

The experience happens rain or shine.

What if I need to use the restroom?

Restrooms will be available for use at the start and at the end of the experience. You may only leave your car to use the restrooms. Please be aware that you must wear a mask in order to use the restrooms. Our restrooms will be cleaned on a continual basis and will strictly adhere to health and safety recommendations to keep you safe.


There is mention of a toy drive as part of the experience. Do I need to bring a toy?

Bringing a toy is optional, but if you do bring a toy, it would certainly help build more Christmas Spirit! If you prefer to make a monetary donation in lieu of bringing a toy, there is an option during ticket purchase to make a donation. The funds will benefit our charity partners: Toys for Tots and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Where do the toys go?

The toys will be donated to Toys for Tots and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Do toys need to be wrapped?

All toys will need to be sealed in their original packaging, but they should not be gift-wrapped.


Where can I get tickets?

You can purchase tickets online here or call (213) 267-8786. Individual tickets can also be purchased and added to an existing order through the call center or on-site.

Can I buy tickets on-site at the Fairplex?

We recommend buying tickets in advance due to the event’s limited capacity. If you come to the event without a pre-purchased order, we may not be able to accommodate you. However, you can add additional individual tickets to your car/existing order at the time of entry, provided the total number of individuals in your car does not exceed the maximum of eight.

What are the different ticket options?

Each order includes individual tickets for each vehicle occupant. Tickets are sold for designated time slots every 15 minutes. Individual tickets are priced according to show dates and include an adult and child option. Individuals ages 2 and under do not need a ticket. Does every individual need a ticket?

Yes, everyone over the age of 2 needs a ticket to enter.

What is the difference between a ticket and an order?

Each order allows entry for one car. Every person in the car must have a ticket. (Note: Children 2 years old and under do not need a ticket.) Each car/order has a minimum requirement of two tickets/people and a maximum of eight tickets/people.

Is there a minimum and maximum number of people per vehicle?

Yes, each vehicle must have a minimum of two ticketed individuals, and the maximum is eight individuals.

Can I add tickets to my existing order?

Yes. You can add tickets to an individual order to increase the number of individuals attending in your vehicle. To add additional people/tickets to your order, please call the call center at (213) 267-8786 to purchase. However, higher ticketing fees will apply. Otherwise, you can purchase additional tickets for your car on-site at the event. Maximum of eight individuals per car/order.

Can we come in separate cars?

Each order allows for one vehicle entry. If you want to come in separate cars with your group, you will need to divide up the number of tickets you intend to purchase across two or more orders.

What is your refund/exchange policy?

Tickets are nonrefundable. We will make best efforts to accommodate exchanges in certain circumstances, but only at times when inventory allows.

Do I need to print my ticket?

We recommend printing your tickets. However, we are also able to scan your tickets from your smartphone.


What’s included in a VIP pass?

A VIP upgrade includes a dedicated welcome lane for VIP guests, one magic gift bag per car/order, and a socially distanced photo opportunity with Santa for the whole group in your car.

Does everyone in the car need their own VIP pass?

The VIP upgrade is on a per-car/order basis. Every ticket holder in your car will be treated to the VIP experience. Please note, individual admission tickets are also required for each member of your party.

What if all the VIP passes are sold out at the time I want to attend the show?

VIP passes are limited. Please select another time and/or date to check VIP upgrade availability.


Is The Elf on the Shelf’s Magical Holiday Journey COVID-safe?

Yes. We put the safety of our staff and guests first. We have designed the event to accommodate measures that mitigate the risk of spreading COVID-19. We advise that you stay in the comfort and safety of your own cars for the duration of the event. Drive-in movies/events/car parades are permitted provided occupants in each car are members of one household.

Are masks required?

If you leave your vehicle to use the restroom, or if you open the windows of your vehicle, you will need to wear a mask.

Is there any interaction with the performers?

Yes, from a distance and behind closed windows.

Are performers allowed to approach the cars?

Yes, but only when you have your windows rolled up or are wearing a mask yourself.

Can I get out of my car?

Patrons will only be allowed to get out of their car to use the restroom at the beginning or at the end of the experience.
